Families Helping Families of Greater Baton Rouge ("FHFGBR," "we," "us," or "our") is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit family resource center located at 2356 Drusilla Lane, Baton Rouge, LA 70809. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting the personal information you share with us.


This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, protect, and share your information when you visit https://www.fhfgbr.org, register for our services or events, make a donation, join our email list, or opt in to receive text (SMS) messages from us. It applies only to FHFGBR and its communications. By using our website or opting in to our communications, you agree to the practices described here.


2. Information We Collect

Information you provide to us. We collect personal information you choose to give us through contact forms, service intake, event and training registrations, volunteer applications, newsletter sign-ups, SMS opt-in forms, and donation portals. This may include:

  • Name and mailing address
  • Email address
  • Mobile phone number
  • Information about the services, resources, or events you are interested in
  • Donation details (payment information is handled directly by our payment processor; we do not store full card numbers)


Mobile phone numbers. FHFGBR collects mobile phone numbers for the purpose of sending you transactional messages (for example, appointment reminders, event and registration confirmations, donation receipts, and order or request updates) and promotional messages (for example, upcoming events, workshops, fundraising campaigns, sales, discounts, and special offers such as reduced event registration). We collect your phone number for text messaging only with your express consent.


Information collected automatically. When you visit our website, we may automatically collect non-identifying information such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URLs, and how you interact with our pages.


3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain our website, services, and resource connections
  • Respond to inquiries, support requests, and requests for individualized services
  • Schedule and remind you of appointments, trainings, support groups, and events
  • Process event registrations and charitable donations, and send receipts
  • Send email newsletters and updates you have signed up for
  • Send text messages you have opted in to receive
  • Improve our website and outreach through analytics
  • Comply with legal obligations and grant reporting requirements (using aggregated or de-identified data wherever possible)


4. SMS / Text Messaging Privacy

  • Consent. We send text messages only to people who have expressly opted in, for example by checking an unchecked consent box on our website form, completing a paper or event sign-up form, or texting a keyword to our number. Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of receiving services, attending events, or making a donation.
  • What we send. Opted-in contacts may receive transactional messages (such as appointment reminders, event confirmations, and request updates) and promotional messages (such as event announcements, fundraising campaigns, sales, discounts, and special offers).
  • Rates and frequency. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies.
  • No sharing of opt-in data. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties, excluding aggregators and providers of the Text Message services. We do not sell, rent, or share mobile phone numbers or SMS consent with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes.

5. Email Communications

When you join our email list, register for an event, or make a donation, we may send you transactional emails (confirmations, receipts, reminders) and informational or promotional emails (newsletters, advocacy alerts, event announcements, and fundraising appeals).


Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you may opt out at any time. We honor unsubscribe requests within 10 business days. Even after you unsubscribe, we may still send transactional emails related to a registration, donation, or service request you initiated. Our emails follow the CAN-SPAM Act and identify FHFGBR as the sender with our physical mailing address.


We use a third-party email service provider to deliver our emails. That provider processes your email address only on our behalf and may not use it for its own marketing.


6. How We Share Information

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. We share it only in these limited cases:

  • Service providers that help us operate, such as our website host, email service provider, SMS platform and its carrier aggregators, and donation processor. They may use your information only to perform services for FHFGBR and must keep it confidential.
  • Legal requirements, when disclosure is required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of FHFGBR, our families, or others.


Mobile phone numbers and SMS opt-in consent are never shared with third parties for marketing purposes, as described in Section 4.


7. How We Store and Protect Your Data

Your information is stored in secure, password-protected systems hosted by reputable providers in the United States. We protect it with encrypted (HTTPS/SSL) connections on our website, access limited to authorized staff who need it for their work, and contractual confidentiality obligations for our service providers. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we review our safeguards regularly.


8. Data Retention and Deletion Requests

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes in this policy, or as required by law, grant, or tax-reporting obligations. You may ask us to access, correct, or delete your personal information at any time:

10. Children's Privacy

Our website is intended for parents, caregivers, adults, and professionals. We do not knowingly collect personal information online from children under 13. Information about a child that a parent or guardian shares to request services is used only to provide those services. Our site links to state agencies, partner organizations, and other resources. This policy applies only to FHFGBR. Other sites are governed by their own privacy policies.
